Panofsky’s lecture, originally entitled “Gothic and Scholasticism,” was first given on December 6th, 1944, at Vassar College, New York. 1 A second presentation, under the title “Gothic Architecture and Scholasticism,” took place on December 8th, 1948, at Saint Vincent College, Latrobe, Pennsylvania, as one of the annual Wimmer. The text is illustrated with numerous black-and-white photographs, floorplans and illustrations. Illustrated paperback binding with black and white coloured titles to the front panel and black coloured titles to the back strip. Quoting from the front panel ' . an enquiry into the analogy of the arts, philosophy and religion in the Middle Ages.' The author correlates the development of Gothic architecture and the growth of scholastic philosophy. Rubbing of the book edges and panels and the panels also show sunning, particularly the back strip and the area closest to the back strip on the rear panel. Age toning of the text block edges and pages and there is a splash mark to the top edge of the front edge of the text block. Size: 8vo - over 7¾' - 9¾' tall.
